Saturday's NETAID benefit concerts generated 2,385,455 total web streams, with users logging on from 160 different countries, according to J. Douglas Graham of KPMG, the company that designed the NetAid Web site. The three shows -- in New Jersey, London and Geneva -- drew a total crowd of 110,000. "In terms of the total world-wide television, radio and Internet coverage, we were able to touch people two billion times," said Graham. "One of our goals from the beginning of this was to bring enormous visibility to the issue. The other was to leave behind a system that would transform the not-for-profit world, and during the event, we had 1,400 not-for-profit organizations sign up to be part of that system." He said figures from donations made during the concert should be available by next week. "We don't expect that to be huge, because we didn't ask for donations at any time during the event" . . .
The horserace is over, and after almost a year of managing themselves, the SMASHING PUMPKINS have asked OZZY OSBOURNE's wife and manager Sharon Osbourne to guide their fortunes. But before making the decision, Billy Corgan certainly shopped around, having reportedly met with Michael Ovitz of Artists Management Group; Beck and Beastie Boys manager John Silva; Jim Guerinot, who watches over Chris Cornell, the Offspring and No Doubt; Arthur Spivak, who is best known to most of us as Tori Amos's guiding light; Fiona Apple's Andy Slater; as well as Jeff Kwatinetz and Peter Katsis, who have nurtured the careers of Korn, Limp Bizkit and Orgy. "Billy talked to every manager in the industry, I think, and he liked me best," Sharon Osbourne told the Los Angeles Times. "And I can't blame him." But more importantly, will Sharon's temperamental husband be miffed because she's taking on the equally temperamental Corgan? Mrs. Osbourne says no: "He was so happy, he called Billy up and welcomed him to the family" . . .

Shortly before his band's encore at Saturday night's San Francisco show, NO DOUBT drummer ADRIAN YOUNG walked onstage, called up his girlfriend Nina, got down on one knee and proposed. Hard rock band SYSTEM OF A DOWN have been added as the openers on FILTER's upcoming tour. It's actually a big ol' switcheroo: You see, STAIND were originally supposed to be on the Filter tour, but had to drop off to fill a slot on the Family Values tour left vacant when LIMP BIZKIT frontman, FRED DURST had a dispute with S.O.A.D. and kicked them off the tour...

After wowing the ladies for almost a decade with his sultry soul stylings, AL GREEN bought himself a church in Memphis in 1976 and became its ordained pastor. Although he's preached from the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church's pulpit for more than twenty years, Green performed his very first concert there on Sunday. More than 650 of the faithful gathered to hear Green sing gospel tunes ...
Just when we thought MICHAEL JACKSON was turning into Ward Cleaver -- with a wife and two kids -- he and second wife Debbie Rowe Jackson (that's "Mrs. Jackson," if you're nasty) have filed for divorce. According to a statement from King of Pop spokesman Howard J. Rubenstein, "Michael and Debbie remain friends and they ask that the public respect their desire not to further comment or speculate upon the reasons for their decision." We're sure the public will be real happy to oblige, Howie. In musical Michael news, he has just finished recording tracks for his upcoming album (due next year) with WYCLEF JEAN ...
If you're not convinced that MARILYN MANSON deserves the epithet "shock-rocker," you'll want to take a gander at the new home video Demystifying the Devil, an Unauthorized Biography of Marilyn Manson, which reportedly includes scandalous footage of the perennially provocative Manson back when his band, then called Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, were just getting their start. According to the Web site peddling the video (www.mansonvideo.com), the ninety-minute tape includes not only interviews with Manson's former cohorts and "never before seen concert footage," but also has photos of Manson feeding a rabbit to his pet snake, and playing with his other pet snake. The vid fetches $19.95...
