Album Reviews

Aside from the fact that he pens embarrassingly corny lyrics, little fault can be found with the recorded works of Peter Frampton. A master musician, he's capable of composing in a wide range of styles and being equally at home with them both instrumentally and vocally. He sings with a sense of innocence that goes a long way toward combating the lyrics. As a guitarist Frampton puts the likes of Clapton and Blackmore in their proper perspective with playing as distinctive and versatile (in both technical and emotive terms) as anything Joe Pass and Herb Ellis might concoct were they to sashay into the English rock idiom.

This newest Frampton album only serves to further illustrate the above assertions with 11 tasty musical nuggets. Fans of the heavy-metal sound will no doubt be pleased with songs on the order of "(I'll Give You) Money." Those desiring tunes a bit more in the mainstream of English pop can bask in the glories of "Nowhere's Too Far (For My Baby)" and "Day's Dawning." There's even some semi jazz and two instrumentals included on this remarkably diverse LP—all tastefully done with flair and imagination.
