Nine years ago, Canadian electro provocateur Peaches busted out with the dance-floor crusher "Fuck the Pain Away." She's still singing gender-screwing tracks designed to be stimulating, but on her fourth album, Peaches — part Lil' Kim, part Lita Ford and all hot mess — waits until "Billionaire" to whip out wordplay worthy of Beck lubed on ludes ("Too much salt in my diet/Quiet Riot/You stayin' at the Hilton, or you stayin' at the Hyatt?"). With help from Simian Mobile Disco and Soulwax, synths rumble and scuttle while Peaches plays the part of a disco queen ("Talk to Me"), club goddess ("I Feel Cream") and J.J. Fad ("Trick or Treat"). Though it hits only a few different notes, Peaches' bawdy pop feels like a refreshing breath of filthy air.
