Album Reviews
Despite a decade of DJing under his belt, Politics is Paul van Dyk's first commercial mix CD. While his peers were happy to indulge themselves in the compilation format, the Berliner held back, choosing instead to concentrate on his rather prolific, original production work. And it is PVD's commitment to this type of artistry that continues on this double disc set. Included in the three plus hours of dance floor inspired bliss, Van Dyk took liberties with music he liked -- fiddling with them in studio to make them fit, adding new tracks of his own as well as current DJ chart-toppers, all of which add up to a wonderfully indulgent package. U2s "Elevation," "Killin' Me" by Timo Maas, and the irresistible "Rapture" by IIO all stand out to make the compilation absolutely essential. Politics keeps the predictably high PVD standards and indulges the listener in a raving good time.
