Album Reviews
Papa Roach managed to outlast the rap-metal boom of the early part of this decade, in part by dropping the rap. On the band's sixth album, the rap's still gone, but the fake metal hooks are in full effect. Hard-riffing and accessible, Metamorphosis boasts several grimy-catchy songs that recall the dude rock currently on the airwaves. Notable tracks include the dewy-eyed slow one "Carry Me" and "I Almost Told You That I Loved You," a future strip-club hit that manages some sexy heat. The problem is that Papa Roach don't rise far enough above the radio-rocking competition — it's hard to remember the band's identity at this point.
