OMC Getting Ready To Record Sophomore Project

Pegged as a one-hit wonder even before "How Bizarre" dominated the charts last summer, OMC is hell-bent on proving critics wrong with another hit album soon. |

Pauly Fuemana, the New Zealand native responsible for creating the hugely popular dance track, is currently working on new material for the follow-up to his 1997 mega-release, How Bizarre. He has already written a number of tracks, but like most artists, hesitates to reveal much information. "Please don't insult me [for not telling you]," Fuemana wrote in an email from New Zealand to JAMTV on Wednesday. "It's my way of keeping secrets."

Fuemana is working with producer Michael Mangini and is deciding whether to record the currently untitled album in his home studio in Auckland or in a New York studio later this year.

Although Fuemana says How Bizarre can never be matched, he does have "a card or two up [his] sleeve.

"The biggest feedback I seem to be getting is always on how diverse my sound is," he said. Fans who know OMC should know not to expect anything like How Bizarre, an album that combined Fuemana's Polynesian roots with rock, R&B, reggae, dancehall, hip hop, Big Band, as well as a host of other musical influences. In fact, Fuemana said the new music is -- not surprisingly -- moving in many different directions.

OMC is set to enter the studio some time in July. (Ari Bendersky)
