Album Reviews
History will remember the
late Ol' Dirty Bastard as a creative MC and a legendary eccentric, and these final recordings, cut shortly before his death in November (along with a Roc-A-Fella album that will be released later this year), doesn't dispute that assessment. Osirus contains ODB's usual share of unfocused filler, but it's also a welcome reminder of what made him great. The DJ Premier-produced "Pop Shots (Wu Tang)" and the hooky "High in the Clouds" get by on freaky singsong choruses, and on a handful of other up-tempo winners ODB turns his manic yowl into a showcase of pure id. Choice line: "You can eat my ass and have a Coke with that."
