While Missy Elliott cooks with the Neptunes, Timbaland is out to prove he can produce an omnipop multiformat blockbuster in the style of Gwen Stefani's Love Angel Music Baby -- but without Gwen. Instead, he passes the mike to Canadian chirper Nelly Furtado, a mighty strange choice for an R&B goddess, but that's Timbaland for you. Furtado had a dodgy 2001 pop hit you might remember, the ornithologically themed "I'm Like a Bird." But she disappeared instantly, and by now you'd expect her to be on a reality show, sharing a Miami Beach condo with Meredith Brooks and Paula Cole. Timbaland brings her back on Loose to scat her quirky high-school-musical vocals over his mostly Eighties beats -- what's he been listening to, Ready for the World? Highlights include their garish sex duet "Promiscuous" and the reggaeton rip "No Hay Igual." "Maneater" is not a Hall and Oates cover, but it bumps hard enough to qualify as a sequel, and that's high praise indeed.

Nelly Furtado and Timberland really make a great team. And the opening of -Promiscuous- and -Afraid- shows this pretty well.
The highlights of this album is surely the cover of the rock anthem -ManEater- which does have this cool vibe that you won't be able to let go. What's also nice to hear is -Te Busque- and -Afraid- is also a beautiful track. LOOSE might be good for a little while but's fair. Nelly Furtado can sing but she doesn't show it. That's the real flaw in this album. She better realize that pretty soon.

The album is really good, people. I think Nelly can move between so many genres and has changed her game so much with each album, that people compare her to herself, and claim that she does not add up. I'm sorry- are we looking for a monotonous girl that does what people tell her? I can think of about a million pop princesses that already do that. She has made her most hip-hop album, and done it well. Afraid is great. Maneater is AWESOME and Wait For You is really good. All Good Things is the standout ballad. I think the negative responses she has gotten by RS and other "experts" proves that she refuses to be boxed in, and I for one respect that a lot.

In review "Whoa, Nelly!" RS accused her of being spastic b/c her sound was eclectic & not typically top 40 pop in nature. With "Folklore" she reigned in, concentrating on lyrics, tailoring the sound of each song to what she had to say in it while still being difinitive about her musical sound and for those efforts, RS reviewed her as having only "world beat flourishes" and taking herself too seriously. Now, in "Loose," an album geared toward a mainstream audience, RS' review accuses her of being plucked from obscurity by Timbaland and becoming by-product of his production as well as an inferior imitation of Gwen Steffani, nevermind the fact that several of "Love, Angel, Music, Baby's" sound suspiciously like a few of the songs from "Whoa, Nelly!"
What Nelly hasn't been accomplishing in the US, she has been throughout the rest of the world. RS should pay their reviwers enough to hire decent research assistants to peer outside of the sandvox that the American music industry often becomes. Now, poised for well-deserved & overdue success in the US, not only RS but Blender, et al. seem determined to punish Nelly for turning to a world audience when the US industry wasn't ready for the sounds she was producing INDPENDENTLY.
I have to agree with what Missy Elliott said about Nelly. . . she's a misician's musician. I guess that puts her at odds with the reviewers. But then, those who can, do. Those who can't, cryticize b/c they think it's not being done right.
Congrats, Nelly. S#@t on the reviewers this time, instead of the radio.

I really like this album A LOT. And this is coming from someone who's not much of a pop music fan. I'd give it a four star rating

Sorry, Nelly.

I love her music, I'm proud that she's Canadian, and she truly is a talent, but I picked up this album expecting greatness and all I got were a handful of tracks that truly express her heritage and her flavour. Timbaland's a great contributor to the music industry but I could never see her doing "hip-pop", ever. Whatever did Track and Field say when she started down this road?

Promiscuous is solid and I love the bump/grind of Maneater, but what I still love most is her eclectic alternative-pop and international sound from albums past that she has at least stuck in a few tracks. Unfortunately, that's not sufficient enough for me.

Like one of the other reviewers said (I looked for your name, but for some reason your review has disappeared off my screen), it'll be better for her career if she sticks to what she earned fame on, being an innovator and a true beacon of global-style music reflecting her roots, and not traipsing around experimenting on risky ventures like these.

I heard the first single about a month ago, Promiscuous. At the time I did not know who was singing it. To say I was surprised to find out it was Nelly Furtado is an understatement. The days of the old Adult Rock Nelly are way behind her now. I got the CD last week and have not stopped listening to it. Its great. Go Nelly!

Nelly Furtado is by FAR my favorite artist. I loved both Woah Nelly and Folklore. But Loose is the best of the bunch. Nelly is so versatile, she can do anything. Loose will probably be the biggest hit of the year. Every song could be played to the bone on the radio and in clubs.
