Nelly comes to the small screen, Elvis Presley musical stops shaking

NELLY has inked a deal with a production company for a reality series that will chronicle his everyday life. The rapper -- who starred opposite Adam Sandler and Chris Rock in this year's The Longest Yard -- is also continuing his acting career, as he's scored a role in the film Crenshaw Blvd., currently in pre-production . . . After a six-month run, the ELVIS PRESLEY Broadway jukebox musical, All Shook Up, will close on September 25th . . . Songs from the RAMONES, MADONNA, TALKING HEADS, the CURE and ICE-T are featured on the three-CD box set Just Say Sire: The Sire Records Story, due September 27th. The set will also include a DVD of twenty videos from artists like DEPECHE MODE, the REPLACEMENTS and WILCO . . . AEROSMITH will release the live DualDisc, Rockin' the Joint (Live at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas), on October 25th. The album, which was recorded in January 2002 at Las Vegas' the Joint, will include the live album debut of older tracks like "Seasons of Wither" and "No More No More," as well as a cover of FLEETWOOD MAC's "Rattlesnake Shake" . . . BONO along with actresses KATE HUDSON, EVA LONGORIA and FELICITY HUFFMAN have autographed portraits of themselves shot at the recent Toronto Film Festival for an eBay charity auction in support of OneXOne, which raises awareness and funds to eliminate world suffering. Bidding will run now through August 29th with all proceeds going to benefit the American Red Cross and Bono's charity, DATA . . .

This year's Voodoo Music Experience, which was scheduled to take place in New Orleans on October 29th and 30th, will move to Memphis for the same dates. The event will donate its proceeds to the New Orleans Restoration Fund . . . DESTINY'S CHILD will release their greatest hits collection, Destiny's Child's #1's, on October 25th. The compilation will feature hits like "Survivor," "Soldier" and "Lose My Breath" along with the new tracks "Feel the Same Way I Do," "Check On It" -- from Beyonce's upcoming film The Pink Panther with Steve Martin -- and the World Children's Day anthem "Stand Up For Love" . . . The members of METALLICA have contributed their voices to an episode of The Simpsons set to air next May . . . Singer-songwriter SUFJAN STEVENS will perform at New York's Lincoln Center on January 14th. Grammy winning rockers FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE will perform a rare acoustic set for American Songbook at the same venue two-weeks later on January 28th . . . SHA NA NA will perform at the Feast of San Gennaro in Los Angeles on September 25th at the Grove. The retro rockers will release their new album, One More Saturday Night, on November 22nd . . . ALKALINE TRIO frontman MATT SKIBA has teamed up with PETA and recorded a pro-vegetarian downloadable voicemail greeting. Skiba is also giving fans a chance to win an iPod when they download the message at peta2.com . . . The BEASTIE BOYS will celebrate their twenty-fourth anniversary with their first career-spanning greatest hits collection, Solid Gold Hits, due November 8th . . .

GREEN DAY will release Bullet in a Bible, a DVD documenting the group's two biggest shows to date at London's Milton Keynes National Bowl this past June, on November 15th. The release, also available for PlayStation Portable, includes interviews with band members . . . JIMMY PAGE was made an honorary citizen of Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday in a ceremony at the Casa Jimmy facility for underprivileged kids that he sponsors . . . WILCO frontman JEFF TWEEDY will embark on a twelve-date solo tour this fall, beginning November 5th in Madison, Wisconsin . . . SYSTEM OF A DOWN's Hypnotize, the second part of their two-album set, will be released November 22nd on CD and DualDisc . . . Omaha-based indie label Saddle Creek will release Lagniappe, a compilation CD featuring new songs and B sides from the FAINT, BRIGHT EYES, CURSIVE and other label artists in mid-October. All proceeds from the CD will go to the Red Cross' Hurricane Katrina relief efforts . . . ORANGER, who release their fourth full-length album New Comes and Goes this week, will hit the road with the POSIES in September and October . . . Also on tour together this fall in support of their current releases will be KOUFAX and the HONORARY TITLE . . . Bronx hip-hop artist TIMOTHY DARK will release the Darkness Breaking EP off his own Kashache Records label on October 25th. The album features guest vocalist NELLIE McKAY . . .

Motown singer-songwriter WILLIE HUTCH died Tuesday in Dallas at the age of fifty-nine from undisclosed causes. Hutch helped pen the JACKSON 5 hit "I'll Be There" and would go on to produce albums for MICHAEL JACKSON, SMOKEY ROBINSON and the FOUR TOPS. Hutch's own performing career included the R&B hits "Slick" and "Brother's Gonna Work It Out," which was sampled by the CHEMICAL BROTHERS . . . ASHLEE SIMPSON, DIAMOND NIGHTS and DOUG GILLARD of GUIDED BY VOICES will join LOS LONELY BOYS, the POSIES, AQUALUNG, BLACK MOUNTAIN and ROBBERS ON HIGH STREET at Boston's NEMO festival, September 29th to October 2nd. The festival, with its mission to help boost the profile of indie artists, will also host daytime conferences . . . BLOC PARTY will release the single "Two More Years," the first of all-new material since their debut album, Silent Alarm. Also available exclusively on Virgin Digital are six live tracks recorded from the band's Reading Festival set this past August . . . GOGOL BORDELLO will tour this fall in support of their new album, Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike. Lead singer EUGENE HUTZ currently stars alongside Elijah Wood in the film adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's best-selling novel Everything Is Illuminated . . . SILVERSTEIN, BAYSIDE and AIDEN will join headliners HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS on the Never Sleep Again Tour this fall. The tour will hit the U.S. for thirty-nine dates, beginning October 27th in Indianapolis . . . Japan's ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK will join the BLOODHOUND GANG on a full U.S. tour this October . . .

Louisiana native BRITNEY SPEARS is donating two grants from her foundation to aid in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The first will go to Habitat for Humanity's project Operation Home Delivery, a long-term rebuilding plan for families affected by the disaster. The second will provide the East Baton Rouge School System, which has taken in nearly 7,000 displaced New Orleans students, with supplies, transportation and other materials . . . ROBERT PLANT will join PEARL JAM at their $1,000-per-ticket Katrina benefit concert at Chicago's House of Blues on October 5th . . . LINKIN PARK's MIKE SHINODA will release his hip-hop side project FORT MINOR's debut album, The Rising Tied, on November 22nd. The album, which was produced by JAY-Z, features collaborations with COMMON, JOHN LEGEND, BLACK THOUGHT of the ROOTS and fellow Linkin Park member JOE HAHN . . . DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, COMMON, U2, the BRAVERY, MATISYAHU, M.I.A., GORILLAZ, ARCADE FIRE, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and PAUL WALL are among the artists nominated for the MTVu 2005 Woodie Awards, where college students vote for their favorites. The awards show will take place at New York's Roseland Ballroom on November 2nd and will premiere on MTVu and mtvu.com November 10th . . .

USHER, KANYE WEST and ALICIA KEYS are giving fans a chance to bid on opportunities to sit in on recording sessions. The auctions will take place on eBay, from October 11th to the 20th, and will benefit the Step Up Women's Network, a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening resources for young girls and women. Autographed items by METALLICA, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND and CARRIE UNDERWOOD are also up for auction . . . The DEAD KENNEDYS will reissue Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables in a twenty-fifth anniversary edition on October 25th. The album will include a bonus DVD with live footage and interviews with the seminal punk rockers . . . JILL SCOTT, T.I. and PRETTY RICKY will be guest servers at a New York luncheon hosted by the International Association of African-American Music Foundation to benefit Katrina victims on September 24th at Negril Village . . . BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will perform a benefit concert for Katrina victims at Nashville's City Hall on October 11th. All proceeds from the show will go to the American Red Cross . . . TWISTED METHOD guitarist ANDY HOWARD was found dead last Friday in his Florida home. The cause of death has yet to be determined, but the guitarist did have heart and lung problems . . . Nashville-based singer-songwriter JASY ANDREWS is set to release her debut album, Little Girl, on October 11th . . .

The FUGEES, KANYE WEST, the ROOTS, MOS DEF, ERYKAH BADU, TALIB KWELI, COMMON and JILL SCOTT will hit the big screen in Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a documentary centered around the massive outdoor show organized by the comedian on a Brooklyn, New York, block last year. The film, directed by Oscar-winner MICHEL GONDRY (WHITE STRIPES videos, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), had its first public screening at the Toronto Film Festival and was purchased by Rogue Pictures . . . Capitol Records will release the two-CD, thirty-eight track Working Class Hero -- The Definitive Lennon, on October 4th. The album commemorates the late BEATLE's sixty-fifth birthday and will include classic songs such as "Imagine" and "Give Peace a Chance" . . . MUDVAYNE, ALKALINE TRIO, BUCKETHEAD featuring SYSTEM OF A DOWN's SERJ TANKIAN, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, MASTODON, SHADOWS FALL, THURSDAY and DEATH BY STEREO are among the artists featured on the soundtrack for the Masters of Horror series, a thirteen-episode collection directed by some of today's most acclaimed horror directors, debuting October 28th on Showtime . . . On Monday, LIL' KIM began her year-long sentence at a Philadelphia federal prison. The thirty-year-old rapper was sentenced on July 6th after being found guilty for perjury stemming from her testimony about a 2001 shooting in front of New York's Hot 97 radio station . . . XM Satellite Radio will broadcast the From the Big Apple to the Big Easy Benefit Concert live from New York's Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. The concert -- featuring performances by DAVE MATTHEWS, SIMON AND GARFUNKEL, ELTON JOHN, LENNY KRAVITZ, JIMMY BUFFETT and the NEVILLE BROTHERS -- raises money for Hurricane Katrina relief . . .

The PIXIES' FRANK BLACK will cover IGGY POP's "Repo Man" for the compilation album, High School Reunion: A Tribute to Those Great Eighties Films!, due November 23rd . . . HANSON will match whatever funds Delone Catholic High School in Pennsylvania raises for Katrina victims. The pop band joined the school's "Stop the Bop" campaign after discovering that it used its breakthrough hit, "MmmBop" . . . DESTINY'S CHILD filmed what is said to be their last music video together last week in Vancouver for the song "Stand Up For Love" (2005 World Children's Day Anthem), off their upcoming greatest-hits album . . . TRACE ADKINS was admitted to a local hospital in Morton, Minnesota, following his September 16th concert after complaining of abdominal pain. The country singer was diagnosed with an inflammatory infection, and emergency surgery was performed. Adkins' September 17th and 18th shows in Spencer, Iowa, and Hutchinson, Kansas, respectively, have been cancelled, along with the September 21st date in Ashland, Ohio . . . NICK CAVE has written the screenplay for The Proposition, set in his native Australia in 1880. Cave collaborator WARREN ELLIS has penned the soundtrack for the film, due November 29th . . . RICKY MARTIN has teamed up with Banco Popular and the Salvation Army for a collection drive to help victims of Katrina. Banco Popular branches are collecting diapers, clothes and educational toys, to be distributed by the Salvation Army to relief centers in Texas and areas affected by the hurricane . . . MOTLEY CRUE frontman VINCE NEIL tore a calf muscle onstage during their September 16th Carnival of Sins tour stop in Atlanta, cutting the show short. Though doctors recommended that Neil take some time off, the band continued on with their weekend dates and plans on performing all the dates on the trek, which wraps in Sioux City, Iowa, on October 16th . . . Rapper YOUNG JEEZY has opened his Atlanta mansion to Katrina disaster victims in need of shelter . . .
