Born Myles Macinnes on Scotland's Isle of Skye, Mylo created his debut album on a Mac G4 using free software and cheap records for samples. While big-name dance discs have recently tanked, Destroy Rock & Roll spawned three U.K. pop hits after being released in 2004, earned raves from both underground DJs and Sir Elton John, and finally snagged a belated but still timely U.S. release. Like Daft Punk, Mylo knows how to hammer home a shameless sampled hook: "In My Arms" pillages Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes," and "Doctor Pressure" mashes up his own "Drop the Pressure" with Miami Sound Machine's "Dr. Beat." And like Rsyksopp, Mylo layers lovely tunes and soft, effervescent arrangements over bumping beats, as he does on "Valley of the Dolls." The only minus: The spoken bits that initially animate several tracks soon grow tedious.
