Nine years into an impressive career, Def Jux vet Mr. Lif is growing weary of wonky political discourse and merciless Bush-bashing. Rest assured, the fiery MC who teamed with Akrobatik and Fakts One as the Perceptionists to make last year's fierce, brilliant Black Dialogue still gets in digs on the current regime ("The Bush administration's worth nothin'/Just fuck 'em"), but more often he reflects on the tangled state of his personal and professional affairs. Lif's flow, which sounds more detached and ambivalent than ever, echoes a weariness spelled out on the opener, "Collapse": "Interviews, touring, performing at my peak/Man, I need sleep."
