Morphine will stoke Southern fires on the final leg of their U.S. tour before entering the studio to record their fifth full-length album this summer. |

The Massachusetts band plans to work with producers Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie, whose past credits include Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Hole and Radiohead. Morphine has not yet decided when or where it will record the follow-up to 1997's Like Swimming, Deb Klein, a spokeswoman for the band's management, told JAMTV on Tuesday.

Anxious fans may catch new material on the upcoming soundtrack to Condo Painting, a documentary about Chicago painter George Condo by Wild Things director John McNaughton. In addition, the now-defunct band Treat Her Right plans to release a compilation titled Out of Time: 1985-1990 in July. The band, which included Morphine bassist/vocalist Mark Sandman and drummer Billy Conway, disbanded shortly before Sandman founded Morphine in 1990.

After wrapping up their stint of Southern dates, Morphine may appear at a Denver festival in July, but plans to concentrate on recording, Klein said. (Anni Layne)
