Big Calm is the follow-up to the band's critically-acclaimed 1996 release, Who Can You Trust? (Discovery). On the album, the group, fronted by singer Skye Edwards, collaborates with the likes of DJ Swamp (Beck), reggae singer Spikey T and Jimmy Hastings who adds flute to the track "Let Me See." DJ Swamp is heard scratching on "Big Calm" and Spikey T can be found singing on "Friction."
Also, for this album Morcheeba re-mixed "The Music That We Hear," a song originally featured on a 1996 EP. On Big Calm, the track is a faster, more upbeat version than the original, according to a band spokeswoman.
Morcheeba will kick off a U.S. tour in May that will likely run through the summer. During the tour, the group may link up with one or more large summer festivals. A source close to the band has confirmed that representatives from more than one festival have approached them.
In related news, Skye is expecting her second child in February. A single mother, Skye has one son, Jaeger, who is two years old. (Ari Bendersky)
