Miss Kittin (real name: Caroline Herve) is a complicated digital-age woman, the electronic heiress to Courtney Love and PJ Harvey. The tracks here form a labyrinth of femme personas -- some fatale, some quite cuddly. Herve's ESL vocals, which occasionally verge on singing, are sly and self-reflexive; the grooves range from frantic techno punk to gleefully filthy booty beats: On "Requiem for a Hit," as Herve elegantly croons, "Show me, oh show me/How you dig that shit/And beat dis bitch with a hit," she is, like Spinal Tap or Nate Dogg, both sexy and sexist. It all sounds glamorous as hell.
