According to Mindless Self Indulgence, what the world needs now is "industrial jungle pussy punk." That's what these proudly amateurish New York shock-rockers call the furious little bursts of contempt on their debut album. Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy combines the processed sonics of Marilyn Manson with the screechy hysterics of the B-52's. Cheap, Atari-derived breakbeats hurtle around death-metal riffs as vocalist Little Jimmy Urine showers disdain on rock legends ("I Hate Jimmy Page"), confides that he loves his mommy " 'cause she fucked my dad" ("I'm Your Problem Now") and clumsily mocks rap-style braggadocio ("Bitches"). Urine doesn't spare himself or his band: Never has a group insisted that they suck more than Mindless Self Indulgence. The thing is, they don't: The Ritalin-ready, irreverent din of Frankenstein Girls could be just the thing for teens tiring of the rap-metal posse's relentless lack of humor. (RS 835)
