Your Turn
Review 1 of 1
Deleanu writes:
Michael Jackson’s 1982 absolutely charming album remains a milestone in pop music history. The title of the album is suitably apt as the pieces on it have a sense of emotion and excitement about them and are at times unbearably romantic. Truly, the thrill of music is at home on this great album!
There are a number of pieces here which also remind us of those days when everything was calmer and more sedate in Michael Jackson’s life. The King of Pop was a stalwart back in 1982 and the lovely songs recorded here are definitely fine memorials of his art.
In his usual indefatigable manner, Michael Jackson managed to conjure on this album a mix of the familiar and the almost totally unknown. BILLIE JEAN and THRILLER are landmarks in dancing music, but I must confess that what are usually considered more obscure pieces such as HUMAN NATURE and BABY BE MINE are to me as appealing as the above-mentioned masterpieces. Other compositions such as BEAT IT and PRETTY YOUNG THING are solid proof that all the songs on THRILLER fit together so seamlessly that it would be rather impertinent to keep on discussing individual pieces. At the same time, the Jackson-McCartney double act materialized into the magical ballad THE GIRL IS MINE also proves to be one of the most balanced duets of all time.
THRILLER, at 25 five years since its fulminant debut, continues to make essential listening for the lover of the pop genre, and it still supersedes all efforts in this field. The Sony digital remastering is predictably excellent, and I would urge all those who love Michael Jackson’s music to snap this CD up without delay. DANIEL DELEANU
