Mase may have found the Lord, but his former partner in rhyme Cam'ron is only interested in the almighty dollar. Newly signed to Jay-Z's Roc-a-Fella Records, Cam is a generally sharp MC with a gift for internal rhyme schemes ("Soon as I get here, niggas wanna rep the Roc-a/Nah/Bag, slab, wrap the rocks up," he quips on "Live My Life"). He also has a penchant for rhyming the same phrase multiple times, a tic that's woven into the backing track itself of the explosive "Oh Boy," one of the best hip-hop singles yet of 2002. But his lyrical renderings of the drug trade lack heart, if not detail. And when he tries other topics -- good girls and, mostly, bad girls -- he's almost entirely without charisma. Come Home With Me is partially redeemed by its exceedingly lush production: The summer-morning piano on "Daydreaming" and arena-rock bombast on "Welcome to New York City" give Cam'ron's stories the substance and emotional center they otherwise lack.
