Marcy Playground's Wozniak Brings "Joy To The Fishes"

singer writes book

Looking at Marcy Playground's comfortable position at No.1 on Billboard's "Modern Rock Tracks" chart, one gets the impression that the alt.rock phenoms are doing what they do best -- making music. However, it appears that it would be wrong to judge this particular book by its cover.|

In a conversation with Marcy Playground singer/guitarist John Wozniak from his hotel room in Ottawa on Wednesday, JAMTV learned that his aspirations are not limited to penning tight pop songs. Wozniak has his sights set on selling a novel that he has been working on over the past several years.

When asked about writing outside music, Wozniak was quick to reply, "I've done it. In fact I started writing a manuscript for a book a few years back called 'Joy to the Fishes.' It's gonna be pretty cool."

"Writing is one of those things that you really have to exercise if you want to keep it," continued Wozniak. "It's just like playing an instrument. If you're going to do it, you've got to practice. For the last couple of years I've been pretty stale when it comes to my own writing, but I do want to [get back into it]."

Wozniak read a lot of fantasy literature as a child, an influence that can be clearly heard on his group's eponymous debut.

Wozniak's book will be in a similar vein. "Oh, yeah. It totally is (a fantasy piece)," the singer laughed. "But it does have that sort of Tom Robbins level of reality to it too."

Check back for more on the publication and look for more information from that interview in Jacked on Monday. (Brandon Barber)
