Most of the album's tracks were recorded live at the Special Olympics Concert in Washington, D.C. last December, and, as with the previous four records, the proceeds will go towards Special Olympics. The tunes range from Stevie Nicks' "Silent Night" and Jean's "Little Drummer Boy" to Sheryl Crow's "Run Rudolph Run" and John Bon Jovi's "Blue Christmas."
There are also a few collaborations stemming from last year's live charity show. Jean teams up with Stevie Wonder on "Merry Christmas Baby," and Wonder and Kimberly Brewer hook up for "I Love You More." John Popper and B.B. King provide the record's other match-up on "Back Door Santa."
SR-71, City High, Eve 6, Dido and Powder all recorded their tunes exclusively for A Very Special Christmas 5.
