Album Reviews
This combination live-concert disc and biopic tells the story of saxophonist Parker -- from his upbringing in a North Carolina housing project through his years with James Brown to his emergence as a solo artist. A document of Parker on tour in 1994 with his JB's hornmates Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis, My First Name catches characteristically funky renditions of "Cold Sweat" and "Gimme Some More" as well as a boisterous P-Funk medley with George Clinton.
