Blues Great Has Cancer

Blues Great Has Cancer

Posted Jul 17, 1997 12:00 AM

Blues legend Luther Allison, 57, was diagnosed with lung cancer and metastatic brain tumors July 10, and is currently undergoing treatment in Madison, Wis.| Doctors performed a biopsy on the W.C. Handy Award-winning guitarist, and Allison's label, Alligator Records, is awaiting the results. At this time, Alligator is still unclear on how far along Allison is with the cancer, and they still don't know what methods doctors are going to use to treat the singer, according to a spokesman at Alligator. However, Allison is looking forward to returning to the stage if he goes into remission.

Allison's current U.S. tour has been canceled, and folks at his label are still not sure whether the singer will remain in Madison under doctor's care there, or if he'll return to Paris where he lives. (AB)
