In case there was ever any doubt, country music is always better when played by genuine Southerners. Produced by the same guy who did the Replacements' Pleased to Meet Me, the Memphis band's fourth album kicks up a back-roads dust cloud as the band rollicks through dark love songs ("Hold Me Close") and whiskey-soaked anthems ("California"). Singer Ben Nichols has a fatigued, frayed drawl that no amount of dialect coaching can replicate.
