For just more than ten years, the beat manglers of Montreal's understated and whimsical Ninja Tune label have so thoroughly mashed up cool flute solos, psychotic drum breaks and ethereal electronics, as well as inspired left-field rapping, that they have both perfected and killed off the genre of trip-hop music. Next to this loopy collection of their best work, featuring artists from DJ Vadim to Mr. Scruff, most amalgams of hip-hop and electronica sound very dead indeed.
