Album Reviews
Sitting in her "bedroom" in short shorts plinking out pop tunes in YouTube videos, Victoria Hesketh has, like Robyn and Lady Gaga, been building a new kind of megastar, at once self-consciously human and dazzlingly super-size. This EP cherry-picks from her hit U.K. LP in an underground-courting package. It includes the sleigh-bell-frosted meta-single "Stuck on Repeat," produced by Hot Chip's Joe Goddard, and "New in Town," a more generic party-on-a-budget jam. Instant Madonna-ness it ain't, but it bodes well that the newest track, "Not Now," cut with mash-up maestros Kid Gloves, is the best. Maybe you can have indie cred and sell it, too.
