Album Reviews
On This Island," the day-glo superheroines of Le Tigre mutate music from all of yesterday's parties -- electronica, hip-hop and punk -- into a very now thing of their own. "Tell You Now" is spine-chilling: The guitar solo is a frozen surf riff, the beats are insidious and Kathleen Hanna's vocals are full of emotion, even if she does sound like she's singing across some high school PA system. "New Kicks" should be the "Ohio" of the current anti-war movement. If Clear Channel didn't have the airwaves on lockdown, This Island would turn the thirteen-year-old girls of this nation into singing, stomping, rioting mobs demanding
r-e-s-p-e-c-t. Then again, you never know.
