Q&A: Lenny Kravitz

AUSTIN SCAGGSPosted Jan 24, 2008 11:46 AM

At certain times, everything lines up — not just musically but also what's going on in the world, how I feel and how other people feel," says Lenny Kravitz, 43. "That's what made this a special record." Kravitz is riffing about It Is Time for a Love Revolution, which is a return to his classic-rock and soul roots, and his optimistic message. Whereas his 2004 release, Baptism, was dark and introspective, Revolution taps into his disgust over Iraq with "Back in Vietnam" but also brims with hope for change on cuts like "If You Want It." It's been eighteen years since he kicked off his career with Let Love Rule, and Kravitz believes it's time to spread that gospel again. "My grandfather came from a small island in the Bahamas with no electricity," he says. "I grew up with people who struggled, but they kept an amazing attitude. They taught me that through love and positivity, I could achieve anything."
