After one of the hottest sets of this year's South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, this Brazilian star gets a proper, overdue U.S. introduction. This career-spanning comp draws heavily from his defining 1999 Na Pressao and the 2002 follow-up, Falange Canibal, showcasing a samba-rock fusion more rhythmically aggressive than bossa nova but just as melodically lush, with Hendrix-ian guitar and fat electrobeats pushing the sound into heavy funk territory. It's music for wine bars that don't mind a few broken glasses.
