Album Reviews
This souvenir of the second Family Values Tour showcases the core of the rap-metal movement -- Korn and Limp Bizkit -- on a victory march after their triumphs at Woodstock '99. Along for the ride with the Family are distant cousins Primus, Method Man/Redman (who contribute a too-short performance of "Da Rockwilder") and the Crystal Method. The live crunch of many of the songs here ("Break Stuff," "Falling Away From Me") overpowers the tunes, but as the heavily miked crowd reaction shows, that was just how the fans liked it. Some surprising highlights come from Filter, who perform "Hey Man, Nice Shot" as an audience singalong and then contribute a fierce version of "Welcome to the Fold." Elsewhere, Staind's leadman, Aaron Lewis, seems lost in the cacophony of "Mudshovel." The big rule here is to give the people what they want: "We would do anything for you," Fred Durst promises the crowd. Of course, what the fans want from Bizkit is "Nookie," and the band obliges with an extended version of the song, complete with some audience-pandering words from Durst that would make David Lee Roth smile.
