Album Reviews
This Monterey, Mexico, quintet put its own spin on dance-till-you-drop mayhem: techno, house and funk rock, complete with a cavalcade of bright touches, including quirky synth squiggles, Latin riffs and wigged-out exhortations-en-espa–ol. Kinky's third album alternately recalls Daft Punk, Prince Paul and indie-rock groovesters like !!!, and though there's lightweight songwriting and lame sound-collage-y cuts like "How Do They Do That?" it's long on big, hooky beats and a sense of humor, as evidenced by party jams like "I Say Hey" and "Monday Killer."
