The fifth album from this hotshot guitarist sounds like a blues record certain frat boys could crank on a front porch, balancing old-school twelve-bar material with more commercial fare and a big, meaty rock attack. Shepherd gets some big cameos -- including B.B. King on a horn-driven cover of "The Thrill Is Gone" -- and on roadhouse stuff like "Chapel Hill Boogie," Shepherd drops hot licks without crowding out his frontmen.

I have to say I totally DS with Rolling Stone.
This is a rip roaring in your face classic Blues
CD. With some of the best Blues artists I have
ever heard. Live they are incredible live. We
in the blues business understand what Kenny is
trying to do. You do not have to be an internationally know music icon to be the BEST!!

Im sorry Buddy Guy wasn't included but Gatemouth and Hubert were/are royalty in my opinopn. The reviewer must not have understaood theh intent of this project. To honor the beginnings and the originaters and that it does very well. Thank you Kenny!

10 Days Out: Blues From The Backroads is one of the finest Blues albums to come out in some time. Anyone listening to the album also needs to view the DVD, which puts the entire project into perspective. Kenny Wayne Shepherd sought out and recorded songs with some of the greatest, down-home legends in Blues history. Many of the songs are absolutely pure in their Blues authenticity. Ultimately, the album becomes a historical documentary, as some of those who recorded with Kenny Wayne did so for the last time, and have since passed away. The CD and DVD are a phenomenal project and a worthy testimony to how treasured the heritage of the Blues is in our American culture. I've subscribed to Rolling Stone for many years and read countless album reviews. The quality of these reviews varies as writers come and go. Honestly, Christian Hoard did a sloppy job with this review. In fact, it gives all the indication of a school kid who didn't do his homework, who didn't bother to research the nature of or impetus behind the album. In that, I am disappointed. 10 Days Out: Blues From The Backroads merits a second look and a new review by Rolling Stone. Hats off to Kenny Wayne Shepherd and everyone who participated in this important Blues project.

I feel that whoever reviewed this CD/DVD did it without any knowledge of any kind of music. This is one of the most authenic and heartbreaking pieces of blues culture ever captured on film. I am very dissapointed that a magazine that supposed to hightlight something sensational has failed to do so. This CD/DVD tells it all about the beginning of the blues music and how it has made it's way into the hearts of the true American music lover forever! The true Blues Legends that make this CD/DVD possible should be celebrated always and not fall prey to whoever thinks that they know music, cause they don't! Shame on you Rolling Stone!!!

I can not disagree more with the RS Review. I feel that a different reviewer should give this CD/DVD combo a second look.

This is for the Blues enthusiast and not the show-boating KWS we have seen in the past. Kenny lets the Blues greats enjoy "their moment". As it should be.

The RS reviewer could not possibly have and heart felt appreciation for the history of the blues or have watched the DVD.

Remember when SRV was told BB King was opening for "him". He told his management this is to NEVER happen again!

KWS wanted to make this CD/DVD to capture some of the blues greats that were getting on in age to preserve some of there talent and stories for all time.

In fact three of the people that were featured on these recordings past away even before it's release.

This is probably one of the top 5 CD's I have ever purchased and I own thousands.

Granted it is probably not for people looking for a new pop album or a top charting hit.

The live lessons learned on the DVD alone are worth the price for admission.

As Cootie Stark sings "I searched and I searched and I searched and I searched but I ain't never found no U-Haul behind no Hearse"

RS just got this one wrong. This is a must buy for any Blues enthusiast period.

To bad your reviewer didn't listen to this album in the right context. He should have used the version that contains the 1 hour 42 minute DVD of the whole project. The purpose of the movie and cd was to perserve the music of many blues musicians. Many of the performers where in their 80's and 90's and five of them have died in the last year and a half. KWS isn't trying to showcase himself, but the talents and historical roots of the old blues musicians. Rating the music against his other albums misses the whole point of this music.

Yeah, Kenny Wayne got it right. He went back home to where it began. What better way to live the Blues than with the people who made it. This is our heritage...alive and well! This CD is hot.

Thanks Kenny Wayne!
