Posted May 10, 1999 12:00 AM

Twin No Limit soldiers/authors Kane and Abel have been charged withconspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine|. According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, they were named in a federal indictment onThursday which alleges that the pair have spent several years purchasing major quantities of cocaine from, and selling it for, drug kingpin and convicted killer Richard Pena. Pena, who is serving a life sentence since pleading guilty to eight drug-related murders to avoid the death penalty, also ran various clubs and record labels. According to Scott Ando, a spokesperson for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, Pena "began to affiliate himself with a lot of people involved in the music industry in one way or another, based on his effort to legitimize himself and to launder his money." Kane and Abel's attorney, Richard Westling, however, says the duo knew Pena because he ran Sheska Records, and had no idea that he was a drug dealer, adding that they "have done very well in the music business [and] have no motive to be involved. They have plenty of income from legitimate sources." Their arraignment is scheduled for today, May 10, in the U.S. Marshall's office in New Orleans. - Werner
