Album Reviews
Meet the first Master P spinoff group: No Limit street soldiers Kane and Abel have broken ranks and formed their own label. With Rise to Power, the Bronx-born, New Orleans-bred twins David and Daniel Garcia feed the Dirty South's hustler appetite: On top of the drug and glock talk ("Get Cha Weight Up") and catchy, ghettocentric party chants ("Let Them Hands Go"), there are enough sexual escapades here to operate a booty club ("Beat It Up"). The often-clichéd lyrics are made dope by the stellar production of the Medicine Men and Louis "Lunatic" Conerly. Funkified guitar riffs and percussion strokes transcend Kane and Abel's merely adequate verbal jousting, making Rise to Power a decent CD that could have been exceptional had the lyrics been as soul-stirring as the beats.
