Album Reviews
Thanks to the scores of artists who flooded the genre with their lifeless mixes, progressive house went so far up its own backside last year it nearly lost itself. It would have stayed adrift had it not been for one of the genre's leading men, Mr. John Digweed. On MMII, his first commercial mix since 2001's Global Underground Los Angeles, Digweed proves once again he is the master of the house. It's a testament to the quality he strives for as an artist to learn that this effort was originally intended for broadcast on his London radio show on Kiss FM. Thus, the record is packed with succulent, sought-after production gems including Underworld's Dub Extravaganza mix of Shakespeare's Sister's "Black Sky" and the euphoric, breaks-style drive of Pole Founder and CP's "Dust." The sublime MMII is a worthy successor to Digweed's discography and proves that one man can single handedly save the day.
