Album Reviews
Nichols is a hard-times country pro, a lifer who paid his dues on the indie circuit, but also the guy who sang the 2005 karaoke classic "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off." Here, he goes for folkie ballads in the Guy Clark mode ("Real Things"), joining Lee Ann Womack for a glum reading of Merle Haggard's "If I Could Only Fly." He does melancholy well, even if he could have used a few tequila shots -- the highlight is "Let's Get Drunk and Fight.”
