Joe Jackson Goes Back To Roots

Posted Sep 19, 1997 12:00 AM

After years of sitting behind a piano cranking out pop rock tunes following his rise from London's early '80s punk scene, singer/songwriter Joe Jackson is heading back to his roots -- classical music. | Jackson, who trained at England's Royal Academy of Music as a teenager, said that it's crazy for him to try to compete with musicians 20 years his junior. Jackson is releasing Heaven & Hell, a new classical CD this month on Sony Records. "Rock music is 40 years old," Jackson told USA Today. "And it's a bit difficult for it to still be shocking. It's now just part of the entertainment business." (AB)
