Album Reviews
Remember the golden days of radio, back in the summer of 2002? Do you miss the era when every hit followed the exact same formula, featuring a thug rapper who needs a lady and an R&B-hook girl chanting about how she can't wait to grease him? If so, you will be stoked Ashanti has a new record out. Ashanti fit the anonymous hook-girl role because she sounded eager to warble any dumb jingle Fat Joe or Ja Rule told her to sing, sticking her with painful lines such as "I want Don Joey Crack on top of me." But on Concrete Rose, she still can't project any personality of her own. Her voice is too plain to redeem such weak material. A Ja Rule reunion called "Turn It Up"? Down, please.
