(LONDON) - The local authority in Stratford-Upon-Avon in western
England has refused to grant an entertainment license for the
Phoenix Festival following complaints from
residents about potential noise and crime. Jamiroquai,
David Bowie, the Charlatans and Black
Grape headline the bill for the festival, due to take
place July 17-20 and which has had to overcome similar legal
obstacles in the past. The event's promoter, the Mean
Fiddler Organization, says it will appeal the decision,
which is based in part on plans to allow 45,000 fans onto the site,
a larger number than originally proposed. "This is a setback but
not the deathknell," a spokeswoman for the promoter told
Billboard Bulletin's Mark Solomons.
