Ultimate Isaac Hayes: Can You Dig It?  Hear it Now

Isaac Hayes cannot be summed up in two CDs. This Tennessee-born trailblazer has generated five decades of grooves, as the pianist for the legendary Stax label's house band; co-writer and co-producer of cherished R&B hits such as Sam and Dave's "Soul Man"; composer of 1971's groundbreaking Shaft soundtrack; and an architect of both disco and hip-hop (not to mention the deep voice of South Park's Chef). Unconscionably shaving large chunks off some of his greatest songs while including marginal tracks, Ultimate Isaac Hayes mixes funk blasts, languid ballads, unreleased live performances, major hits, chart flops and frustrating single edits in a package designed to entice collectors and newcomers. All others should proceed directly to Hayes' original albums, like 1969's landmark Hot Buttered Soul.
