The Indigo Girls are heading to Montgomery, Ala., May 19 to play a private show at the Booker T. Washington Magnet School. Students from around the country participated in the Scholastic Write Lyrics Contest with the hopes that their song would be chosen personally by Amy Ray and Emily Sailers. The two Indigo Girls sorted through the more than 12,000 entries of students' lyrics and hand-picked the winning song written by 16-year-old Ashley Tillery who attends the Montgomery-based school. As her prize, Ashley gets to meet Ray and Sailers and receives an Apple PowerMacintosh computer, courtesy of Apple. The Scholastic Write Lyrics program uses popular music to encourage student writing and expression. (AB)
