In addition to contributing the album's first single, a cover of
the Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'," Hanson will make two
other stabs at seasonal cheer with "Merry Christmas Baby" and a
rendition of the Rascals' "Good Lovin.'"
The original Spice Girls -- not the flimsy, quartet version --
contribute a song called "Sleigh Ride." Another curveball on the
soundtrack is the song "Don't Lose Your Faith in Me," written and
performed by actor Michael Keaton, who plays Frost in the film.
Additional songs include Loeb's "How" from last year's
Firecracker, Poltz's "Leavin' Again" from his 1998 solo
debut, One Left Shoe, Lucinda Williams' "Can't Let Go"
from this year's heralded Car Wheels on a Gravel Road and
Christian rockers Jars of Clay's "Five Candles (You Were There)"
from 1997's Much Afraid, among other previously released
selections.
The soundtrack will hit stores on the same day as two other Spice
Girls goodies. The nouvelle Fab Four will release a five-song
single for their new track, "Goodbye," which will include two
versions of the title track, a studio cover of the Waitresses'
"Christmas Wrapping," and live versions of Sister Sledge's "We Are
Family" and the Annie Lennox/Aretha Franklin girl power tune
"Sisters are Doin' It for Themselves." In addition, a live video --
The Spice Girls: Live From Wembley, which was shot this
September in London -- will make its way into stores just in time
for the Christmas rush.
