Album Reviews
Studio recordings don't tell the whole story about the rapidly evolving Gomez, the British five-piece band that has, through steady touring, developed a constituency that stretches from jamheads to fans of more contemplative singer-songwriter music. This five-track mostly acoustic EP, recorded live at Seattle's KEXP, helps explain some of the pull: Gomez whip "Nothing Is Wrong" into a symphonic frenzy, and tracks such as "Ping One Down" showcase Ben Ottewell's gruff, beautifully disaffected vocals.
