\\From the top it was the Spice Girls' "Spice" (137,000 copies sold); McCartney's "Flaming Pie" (121,000); "God's Property" (119,000); Hanson's "Middle of Nowhere" (107,000); Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses" (106,000); Notorious B.I.G.'s "Life After Death" (83,000); Mary J. Blige's "Share My World" (72,000); George Strait's "Carrying Your Love With Me" (71,000); The Wallflowers' "Bringing Down the Horse" (70,000); the soundtrack to "Space Jam" (69,000).
\\The shocker is clearly God's Property, which actually came within shouting distance of debuting at No. 1. Fronted by gospel superstar Kirk Franklin, the record has already produced an R&B radio hit, "Stomp." The fact that the high-octane, feel-good record is being marketed and promoted by the often-protested Interscope Records, home to gangsta rap and Marilyn Manson, only adds to the oddness.
