On its sixth album, this Boston band's sound is still mired in new-metal darkness, underpinning Sully Erna's constipated yowl with stylized guitar sludge. Though "No Rest for the Wicked" works up headbang-able thrash and "Voodoo Too" sports some eerie tabla-driven psychedelics, most of these retrograde barnburners suggest the dregs of Ozzfest.

This is an album that you can listen to and bang your head to over and over again. IV is one of Godsmacks best albums, its brutal, heavy, angry and from the heart. The album opens amazingly with the eerie and quieter Livin' In Sin eazing you into the album which includes very heavy songs such as The Enemy and No Rest For The Wicked. The album is well balanced it includes brutally heavy songs and quieter and more heartfelt songs such as Shine Down and Mama, then it assults you with creepy playground metal songs such as Voodoo Too. Overall this is a fine album with a good mix of metal, a classy album with songs you can invest emotion in along with a brutal head banging delight. IV Bon apetit!

This album brings back a harcore stlye of their 1990's self titled albumn, and adds a couple softer songs mixed in, witch makes the cd so much better. It makes up for what they lacked in their pervious cd and made the band so much better.

I cannot believe that RS gave this abluma two-star rating. What a load of F***ing crap. A really good band is one that has thier own sound. Godsmack has that. They a true musicians because they put thier sweat and blood, heart and soul into thier music and thier concerts. IV is by far in my opinion thier best album yet. They have progressed and taken a leap of faith by experimenting with their sound. To truly appreciate this album you have to listen to all of it and thesedays, it is rare to find an album that that is worth listening from beginning to end. I fully support this band and will through and through. I just saw Godsmack ini concert this past weekend and man do they put on an f***ing show. So screw rollinig stone for not recognizing music talent. It seems they have a knack for doing that since they bashed Led Zepplin.

Sully still has my full support behind him the entire journey in this realm. I sometimes shudder as he sighs between each chorus. I wish that I could explain how Sully's magic flows from him to me to soothe my soul.

when i first heard godsmack i was 15 and i had accidentaly been sent their first self-titled cd from BMG music and from the moment i decided to check it out i became a fan im 20 now and i have never stopped listening to them and this album is not only 1 of their best but its influential to me as a musician because it shows just how diverese their own influences are and how they matured. I personaly think that the only reason rolling stone gave them a bad review is cuz Godsmack worked hard on this album and actualy wrote their own music UNLIKE rappers and pop artists whose only claim to fame is hiring some studio writers to write their generic songs that created a whole generation of wanna be " thugs " and "gangstas".you can clearly see that ALOT of thought was put into the cd especialy on SHINE DOWN...which has some great harmonica and guitar riffs....ill be the guy who reviewed this album was probly gettin buttfucked by 50 cent at the time.
