G. Love's blend of junkyard blues and hip-hop swagger made a lot more sense in alterna-riffic 1994, and now the challenge is to make the songs stick as his approach begins to sound more and more like shtick. The Hustle is a near miss because it's as annoyingly unfocused as it is tunefully sincere.

The fact that it took two writers to pen that painfully short review indicates that the authors did not really listen to the album. To say that G. Love & Special Sauce's sound has become old contradictory to what most other reviews I have seen of any G. Love album. Too often I have read that his ecletic and ever changing style prevent listeners from enjoying his entire catalog. The Hustle is by no means G. Love & Special Sauces best album, but it far from the worst. Regardless, this album deserved much more than the token effort that Hoard and Relic put forth, and certainly more than two stars.
