GARTH BROOKS will perform on TV for the first time since his 2000 retirement during a Great American Country network segment celebrating the eightieth anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday . . . Grammy winners WYCLEF JEAN and NORAH JONES will release the original duet "Any Other Day" through MSN Music, at music.msn.com/give, on October 14th. All sales from the $.99 single will go toward the American Red Cross and Americares for Gulf Coast hurricane relief efforts . . . On November 3rd STING will host the $20,000-a-table La Dolce Vita New York benefit for the U.K.-based Soil Association, an advocate for organic farming . . . Rapper REVEREND RUN of RUN DMC has put his Saddle River, New Jersey, home up for sale. The house was featured on the MTV series Run's House . . . WILCO will give proceeds from their November 1st Katrina benefit concert at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre to both the New Orleans Musician's Fund and the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans . . . BON JOVI have added additional stops for their Have a Nice Day trek, in Montreal, Toronto, Omaha, St. Paul and Washington, D.C. . . . Sri Lanka-born hip-hop artist M.I.A. will open seven dates of GWEN STEFANI's Harajuku Lovers 2005 Tour, beginning November 11th in Winnipeg, Manitoba . . . TOM PETTY will receive the Century Award at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards on December 6th in Las Vegas, Nevada, for his creative achievement in music . . . As part of a Learning Annex course, GRATEFUL DEAD bassist PHIL LESH will give a one-off lecture about his life in music on January 11th in an as yet undisclosed location in San Francisco . . . DEEP PURPLE: Live in Concert 72/73, a DVD of vintage footage from a 1972 Copenhagen and 1973 New York concert, will be released on November 15th. The Complete Deep Purple, a book documenting the career of the heavy metal pioneers, is out January 15th . . . Australian-born country singer KEITH URBAN, who had been suffering from a vocal cord hemorrhage, is now back on the road with his Alive in '05 tour in Europe . . . MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE's Life on the Murder Scene CD/DVD, featuring B sides, live tracks, music videos and a video diary, will be released October 25th . . . 50 CENT and G UNIT rapper YOUNG BUCK will distribute $125,000 in grant funds from their G Unity Foundation to the Nashville Alliance for Public Education and Teach for America Houston, in support of the organizations' efforts to improve education standards for low-income communities . . . JESSICA SIMPSON's new album, And the Band Played On, originally slated for a November release, has been pushed back to early spring . . . American Idol CARRIE UNDERWOOD will release her debut album, Some Hearts, on November 15th . . . On Thursday, in support of their current chart-topping release, All the Right Reasons, NICKELBACK will perform four shows in four different Canadian cities -- Toronto, Halifax, Calgary and Vancouver -- within a 24-hour period . . . The DOORS: Live in Philadelphia, a two-disc archived recording of the band's entire May 1970 concert at the city's Spectrum, will be released on November 29th . . . The Strawberry Fields Arts Foundation is attempting to raise 20 million dollars to save Liverpool, England's recently closed Strawberry Field orphanage, made famous by the BEATLES song named after the establishment . . . FAITH EVANS will release the soul-tinged A Faithful Christmas, featuring two new songs and several holiday standards, on October 25th. . . LORETTA LYNN has had to cancel the October 14th and 15th shows of her current tour after breaking her foot during a fall on her tour bus . . . Chicago four-piece the REDWALLS will open for HOT HOT HEAT on their fourteen-date fall trek, beginning November 6th in Louisville, Kentucky. WE ARE SCIENTIST will also open for the first seven nights, after which the DIAMOND NIGHTS will take over . . . JIMMY EAT WORLD vocalist/guitarist JIM ADKINS will join DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL and ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS on October 29th at Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium for the MySpace two-year anniversary concert . . . JAKOB DYLAN and RAMI JAFFEE of WALLFLOWERS fame will appear on singer-songwriter WILLIE NILE's first album in six years, Streets of New York, due January 31st . . . LOS LOBOS and the TRUE BELIEVERS will reunite in a historic double bill anniversary and benefit show for the Willie Graham Legg Perthes Fund at Antone's in Austin, on October 27th . . .

ROD STEWART will perform a one-off show at New York's Madison Square Garden on October 19th, the day after the release of the fourth and final installment of his Great American Songbook series, titled Thanks for the Memory . . . The Great American Songbook: Volume IV. Joining the singer -- who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame -- will be CYNDI LAUPER and MELISSA ETHERIDGE . . . The ROLLING STONES will debut the video for their latest single, "Streets of Love," on the October 18th episode of the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives. The song will be further syndicated during scenes in the following weeks of the television drama . . . MADONNA's new documentary, I'm Going to Tell You a Secret, chronicling her 2004 Re-Invention tour, will air on MTV on October 21st . . . Officials for the September 20th Katrina benefit concerts From the Big Apple to the Big Easy, featuring ELTON JOHN, TOM WAITS, JIMMY BUFFETT, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, ALLEN TOUSSAINT and GALACTIC, say they raised nine million dollars. All proceeds will go to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, Habitat for Humanity, MusiCares and the Children's Health Fund. A benefit CD and DVD of the concerts are in the works . . . The BLACK CROWES have added two more nights to their fall tour: October 22nd and 23rd in Los Angeles . . . A live DVD of CARLY SIMON's performance aboard the cruise ship the Queen Mary 2 this past September will be released November 22nd. The singer-songwriter will also headline the nine-date Serenade Tour in support of her latest album, Moonlight Serenade, beginning November 19th in Boston . . . Following his opening stint on U2's Vertigo tour, reggae artist DAMIAN MARLEY will launch his own jaunt, beginning November 11th in Anaheim, California . . .

The Voodoo Music Experience has returned the first night of the two-night event back to New Orleans. The October 29th show, to be held at Riverview Park, will be an invite-only concert for local police, firefighters, National Guard and other aid workers. The October 30th show will remain in Memphis. Some acts slated to perform in one of the two cities (who plays where has yet to be determined) include NINE INCH NAILS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, the SECRET MACHINES and WORLD LEADER PRETEND . . . LUDACRIS, JOHN MAYER, SEAN PAUL, CHINGY, LEANN RIMES, JESSE McCARTNEY, GRETCHEN WILSON and RYAN CABRERA are among the presenters for the 2005 American Music Awards being held November 22nd in Los Angeles . . . The STROKES will release their third studio album, First Impressions of Earth, on January 3rd. The first single from the album, "Juicebox," is currently available through their Web site . . . DIDDY will produce four songs on the limited-edition version and soundtrack to Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure videogame. MOBB DEEP, KASABIAN, FORT MINOR, BLOC PARTY and JANE'S ADDICTION will also make contributions . . . UMPHREY'S McGEE will release their second DVD, Wrapped Around Chicago; New Year's at the Riv, on October 18th, documenting the band's 2004 two-day New Year's run at the Chicago venue . . . DMX's court date for violating the terms of his suspended license has been adjourned until October 25th . . . LISA MARIE PRESLEY kicks off the second leg of her Now What tour November 6th in Portland, Oregon . . . Chicago rapper COMMON has bowed out of KANYE WEST's Touch the Sky tour, reportedly to act in a feature film. FANTASIA and KEYSHIA COLE will continue to support West on his first-ever headlining tour . . . Just off the heels of their thirtieth anniversary tour, arena rock veterans JOURNEY will return to the road November 4th for nine dates . . . DINOSAUR JR. will film their first concert DVD at New York's Irving Plaza on December 2nd and 3rd. The band's recently reunited original lineup will also play another two-night stand at Chicago's Metro on November 29th and 30th . . .

BOB DYLAN'S Poems Without Titles, a sixteen-page collection of poems written by the legendary singer-songwriter in 1960 while attending the University of Minnesota, will be up for auction as part of Christie's annual Pop Rock Memorabilia sale on November 21st. Other items include the gold medallion worn by JIMI HENDRIX during his historic 1967 Monterey Pop Festival performance, lyrics penned by JIM MORRISON, an organ from the now-defunct Muscle Shoals recording studio in Alabama and various BEATLES memorabilia . . . BLACK STAR members MOS DEF and TALIB KWELI will co-headline the Breed Love Odyssey tour, which will also feature solo sets by the rappers. The fourteen-date fall jaunt begins October 28th in Sacramento . . . Former R.E.M. drummer BILL BERRY joined his ex-bandmates MICHAEL STIPE, PETER BUCK and MIKE MILLS to perform a seven-song set at the wedding for a road crew member in Atlanta this past weekend . . . CAT POWER will release their seventh studio effort, The Greatest, on January 26th . . . Indie rockers FRUIT BATS will support SON VOLT on fourteen dates this fall, beginning October 13th in Minneapolis . . . NINE INCH NAILS, who are currently on tour with QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, will continue their fall jaunt with replacement drummer ALEX CARAPETIS. Carapetis is filling in for JEROME DILLON, currently on leave for a heart condition . . . DEF LEPPARD will donate all proceeds from their Tuesday concert at Boston's Agganis Arena to the Greater Boston Food Bank . . . OUTKAST's BIG BOI, currently amidst preparations for the release of the rap duo's upcoming musical feature film and soundtrack Idlewild, was honored with the Fine Arts Award from Savannah, Georgia's King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation for his achievements in the arts . . . Nonesuch Records will release Our New Orleans on November 22nd. The benefit CD featuring Big Easy artists DR. JOHN, BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO, ALLEN TOUSSAINT, IRMA THOMAS, RANDY NEWMAN, DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND, WILD MAGNOLIAS and the PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND will give all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity rebuilding efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina . . .

EMINEM will release the hits compilation Curtain Call on December 6th. The CD is likely to include two or more new tracks by the superstar rapper . . . MARY J. BLIGE will be honored with the V Legend award at the 2005 Vibe Awards being held November 12th in Los Angeles. CIARA leads the list of nominees with five nominations, while KANYE WEST, MARIAH CAREY, JOHN LEGEND and 50 CENT received four nods each. The award show will be aired November 15th on UPN . . . New Age vocalist ENYA will release Amarantine on November 22nd, her first album since 2000's A Day Without Rain . . . Rapper TWISTA will participate in his hometown Chicago's Ninth Annual "Principal for a Day" at the city's art-based Choir Academy Charter School, where he will talk to students about the importance of an education and the arts . . . PATTI SMITH will perform her 1975 debut record Horses in its entirety at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gillman Opera House on November 30th . . . KILLSWITCH ENGAGE will release their first DVD, (Set This) World Ablaze, on November 22nd. The disc captures the hard rock five-piece's July performance at the Worcester, Massachusetts, Palladium, as well as the band's entire music video catalog, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews . . . Swedish rockers the HIVES will release Tussles in Brussels, featuring a nineteen-song performance from Belgium's Ancienne Belgique venue, a LITTLE STEVEN VAN ZANDT-narrated documentary about the band and the group's performance on the U.K.'s Top of the Pops TV show on November 15th . . . BOY GEORGE was arrested last Friday for possession of a controlled substance and for falsely reporting a burglary at his New York City apartment. When police arrived they found cocaine, but no evidence of a break-in. George was released without bail and will report back to court on December 19th.
