To be released March 31 by Noo Trybe, the hip-hop set pairs the monotone stylings of Guru (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) with the scientific beats of DJ Premier. Guru, who has released two solo albums under the name Jazzmatazz, claims his straightforward lyrical approach is intended to uplift listeners.
"I used to be a counselor at a maximum-security detention home
for boys 14-18, their charges ranging from murder to
purse-snatching," he says. "So I had to learn to relate to them not
like a preacher, but more like a big brother or cool uncle."
