Album Reviews
It wasn't until their fifth album, 1998's Moment of Truth, that Gang Starr finally achieved gold-record status, but knowledgeable hip-hop fans have treasured Guru and DJ Premier's consistency and beautifully simple beats for ten years. Full Clip is a hand-picked collection of the duo's greatest sonic moments, peppered with overlooked soundtrack appearances -- "Gotta Get Over (Taking Loot)," from Trespass, and "1/2 and 1/2," from Blade -- top-notch remixes and rare B sides. Three new shots to the dome are also on the mark: the street narrative "All 4 the Cash," the mind-motivating "Discipline" (featuring bad girls Total) and the moving title track (dedicated to the late Big L). Full Clip is proof that Gang Starr have created one of hip-hop's most enduring musical arsenals. (RS 820)
