Album Reviews
Fatboy Slim's late-nineties hits "Praise You" and "The Rockafeller Skank" may be fading into K-tel memory, but the all-star DJ is still happily exchanging any one-way ticket to Palookaville for lucrative round trips to Ibiza. Four years after his spiritually inclined Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars, Fatboy hasn't stopped pandering to his core crowd of fun-loving jalapeāo-
poppers. The difference this time is he's
deploying live musicians and shifting gears to classic rock. He enlists Bootsy Collins on vocals on a cover of Steve Miller's "The Joker," and the 9/11 rumination "Don't Let the Man Get You Down" samples freak-flag-flying hippie anthem "Signs." From the groovy "Wonderful Night" (featuring Latyrx rapper Lateef) to the booming global-trance track "Jin Go Lo Ba" and the hazy soul tune "Put It Back Together" (crooned with hung-over aplomb by Damon Albarn), Palookaville should satisfy any frat soul brother worth his lost shaker of salt.
