Far Offer New "Solutions"

Sacramento band's final album to be reissued

Five years after Far called it quits, the Sacramento act's final LP, Water and Solutions, will be reissued on June 15th. The double-disc package, which includes a DVD with live footage and bonus material, comes at a time when Far singer Jonah Matranga is finally getting recognition thanks to his recent album The Volunteers under his solo mantle, onelinedrawing, and for his side project Gratitude.

"Never too little, never too late," says Matranga of the retroactive attention he's been receiving. "We'll get to call Guinness and set the record for 'Album that sold the least the first time around to receive a fancy reissue.' That anyone cares about any of these odd ideas is great and humbling. I have always thought of W and S as something special."

Emo before the term became a generic catchall, Far have recently been singled as an influence by younger acts such as Thursday and Funeral for a Friend. "More than anything, I enjoy it when any influence we had manifests as a band embracing their awkwardness, being a bit less superhero and a bit more human," says Matranga. "In a weird way, my favorite compliments have always been from sound guys at clubs, because they have to deal with hearing 8 million bands, and it feels nice that they hear something unique in what we did."

Although Matranga added commentary to the DVD and guitarist Shaun Lopez compiled the photos, videos and live footage for the disc, any kind of full-scale reunion with bassist John Gutenberger and drummer Chris Robyn is unlikely. "We'd be sort of awkwardly making conversation," says Matranga. "Or maybe goofing off and laughing."
