How Strange, Innocence

This star-burst-guitar quartet from Midland, Texas, now in its sixth year, was seven months old when it made this debut album. Originally issued in a run of 300 CD-Rs and equally limited vinyl, the golden drone and tremolo ripples here are surprisingly front-and-center. There is almost no reverb; the deep-space travel would come later. But there is big promise in the soaring of "Snow and Lights" and "Look Into the Air." Explosions in the Sky, even in their innocence, had space-rock heaven within reach.
